New MUA podcasts to listen to as we get out the vote!

The Northern Lights over North America?! Times are beautiful, and crazy.

FROM MUA HQ

The week of October 12, 2024 was a LOT for our minds and bodies. We had:

But we also have you. AND! We have a NEW SEASON of our pod!!!

This time around, we’re asking: What do you do to repair your corner of the world? We talk with a Rabbi, an Immigrant Justice activist, a Community Organizer and a Writer about how we can help the world and ourselves, especially when the world feels so chaotic.

Check the trailer on Apple and Spotify, subscribe, and tell your friends!

We also dropped the first episode of Squid Game: The Official Podcast with host Phil Yu aka Angry Asian Man and guest the LA Koreatown legend Dumbfoundead. Phil and his guests will revisit every shocking twist and turn of Season 1, explore the chilling games, unravel the show’s deep themes and more as we count down to the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere on December 26th.

WHO WE’RE SUPPORTING THIS WEEK: EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE
In the spirit of Just Do Something, our pal and super organizer George Goehl sent out a timely newsletter with a list of things we can all do to squeeze out 1, 2, 15 more votes. Here are a few:

  • If you live in Chicago or the area, reach out to Anita Loch at the Walworth County Democrats and find out when you can come up to canvass. It’s an hour and and a half drive. Tell em George sent you. anita.a.loch@gmail.com
  • If you live on the East coast, this group, Changing the Conversation, is doing canvassing in a very strategic spot in Philadelphia. This effort could change the outcome of this election.
  • If you live on the West coast, LUCHA is one of the best organizing groups in the country, and based in Phoenix. Email Stephanie@luchaaz.org to learn more.
  • People’s Action is running a deep canvass by phone. You don’t need to leave your house. Sign up and get trained here.
  • If you want to join one of the very best organizations to emerge since 2016, head to North Carolina. Email Vicente@downhomenc.org and todd@downhomenc.org

As George says, “The way we win is to out-volunteer the other side. And that takes all of us.” Let’s get to it!

LAUGH OF THE WEEK: This is the kind of pettiness we love.

MASH-UPS IN THE NEWS

Han Kang Is Awarded Nobel Prize In Literature
THE NEW YORK TIMES

She’s the first writer from South Korea to win the prize and you can bet that everyone from the South Korean president to the members of BTS felt their hearts swell. Han Kang won for “her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life,” paving the way for future South Korean writers to be as truthful and daring in subject matter. Also, her Granta book covers are stunning.

Desus Nice Travel Series In The Works At Amazon
DEADLINE

The funnyman we all know from Desus & Mero is taking us places and we’re looking forward to it. Might seem random but he’s not a total stranger to the travel show thing— he was once a guest on Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain, where he took the host to joints across the Bronx. *heart fingers*

Harris Proposes Medicare Cover Home Care Costs To Help The ‘Sandwich Generation’
NPR

Hello, hi, that’s us, thanks. Her plan would expand Medicare to help cover the costs of home health care aides for seniors, ultimately providing relief for women who take care of aging parents as well as their own kids, known as the “sandwich generation.” Medicare would be able to expand its benefits by negotiating lower prices with drug companies. Hopefully this, combined with THIS, helps swing some votes!

Fox News To Debut Spanish-Language Show And Website Ahead Of The Election
AXIOS

Did you, like us, also mutter “Oh f-” when you read this headline? “Fox Noticias” is a daily Spanish-language show that’ll be anchored by Rachel Campos-Duffy, who says the show will focus on “the kitchen table issues that matter most to our community,” such as politics, the economy, immigration and cultural trends. It’s important because 50% of the increase in new eligible voters over the past four years has been Hispanic. The battle against desinformación continues.

The Nobu You Don’t Know
GRUB STREET

With the 30th anniversary of Nobu this year, Grub Street took the opportunity to interview its 75-year-old chef-founder. Nobu’s empire now includes 57 restaurants and a line of luxury hotels, but it almost never happened. TLDR: Even successful, rich businesspeople are still human.
